Pictured here is a crowd comprising of military and civilian elites surrounding the Obelisco a los Niños Héroes during the Centennial Celebration of Mexico's Independence from Spain. The monument was created to honor the Niños Héroes of the Battle of Chapultepec and the other 40 cadets who were subsequently imprisoned. The Niños Héroes were 6 military cadets enrolled in the Military Academy - the oldest being 19 and the youngest being 13. These 6 cadets all died - after refusing to retreat - during the Battle of Chapultepec, one of the last major battles of the Mexican-American War on September 13th, 1847. —— Aquí se muestra una multitud compuesta por élites militares y civiles que rodean el Obelisco a los Niños Héroes durante la Celebración del Centenario de la Independencia de México de España. El monumento fue creado en honor a los Niños Héroes de la Batalla de Chapultepec y los otros 40 cadetes que posteriormente fueron encarcelados. Los Niño Héroes eran 6 cadetes militares inscritos en la Academia Militar, el mayor tenía 19 años y el menor 13. Estos 6 cadetes murieron, después de negarse a retirarse, durante la Batalla de Chapultepec, una de las últimas grandes batallas de los mexicanos. Guerra Americana el 13 de septiembre de 1847.
