"Acquired in 2016, the Ernesto Cardenal Papers include correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, printed materials, biographical materials, audiovisual materials, and digital copies of documents created when he was Minister of Culture in Nicaragua in the 1980s. A Catholic priest who participated in the Sandinista Revolution that overthrew the Somoza dictatorship in 1979, Cardenal is one of the foremost poets of his generation. The opening of his literary archive was marked by a poetry recital by Cardenal on November 15, 2016 in the reading room of the Benson Latin American Collection."
